What Age Group Gets The Most DWIs?

On Behalf of | Jun 16, 2023 | DWI defense |

It’s clear that anyone can get a DWI charge. It could be a 16-year-old who just got their driver’s license the day before or someone in their 80s who is still driving and had one too many drinks at a family gathering. However, statistics can show you which age group tends to get these charges the most.

When you break the stats down, what you’ll find is that those from 21 to 24 years old made up the largest percentage of alleged drunk drivers. The next age group was composed of those from 25 to 34 years old. Technically, they are second to these younger drivers, but you could also say that the entire range from 21 to 34 is the most high-risk group.

Are there any other factors that influence the odds?

Another factor to keep in mind is gender. Men are involved in DWI scenarios far more often than women. When looking at crashes, for instance, there are roughly four drunk driving crashes caused by men for every single one that involves a female driver.

What options do these drivers have?

Getting DWI charges at this point in your life can be very detrimental to your future. Maybe you’re 21 years old and halfway through your college career. Are you going to be expelled from your university? Is it going to be difficult to find a job? Are you going to lose your license so that you can’t even go to class or start your new career?

These are all very valid questions to ask. They are also some of the prime reasons why you need to know about all of your legal options when facing such allegations.
